James is a Psychotherapist who holds a Master’s degree in Counselling & Psychotherapy from The University of Adelaide.
James’ focus is in utilising a person-centered, and collaborative, approach to counselling that helps clients focus on the present and understand what is really happening in their lives in the here-and-now. Clients learn to build self-awareness which helps them better understand themselves and how the choices they make affect their health and their relationships. With this self-knowledge, clients begin to understand how their emotional and physical selves are connected and develop more self-confidence to start living a fuller life while effectively dealing with problems.
James works with individuals and couples on issues such as anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, anger management, shame, guilt, addiction, grief & loss, and existential crises, just to name a few.
A typical session with James will focus upon your experience in the present moment as a unique human being, the environmental and social contexts of your life, and challenging the patterns of learnt behaviour which we all naturally develop through open and honest discussion alongside an experiential approach to find solutions.
When he is not at Adelaide Counselling Practice, James also works as a student counsellor for one of the world’s leading Hotel Management colleges based here in Adelaide.
James is passionate about assisting people to live the valued life they desire while overcoming its many barriers.
